What should students know vs. what they will know upon graduation or by the time the student completes the planned program? In the 21st century, knowledge will expand greatly in areas that we can’t even imagine. The world will become more interdependent as we move toward a more global society. In the United States, and in California in particular, the population will become more ethnically diverse. Businesses do and will require a workforce with significant problem-solving skills and a higher level of education than ever before. In addition to having a firm understanding of the core subjects: a. History/Social Sciences b. Mathematics c. Language Arts d. Sciences Every student will be: • A Citizen, who 1. Demonstrates self-motivation. 2. Demonstrates competence and is a lifelong learner. 3. Develops a firm grasp of computer technology. 4. Will work well in a multicultural society. 5. Is prepared to change jobs/careers several to many times over their lifetimes. Every student will be: • A Communicator, who 1. Must understand her or his own learning style. 2. Capitalizes on strengths. 3. Overcomes weaknesses. 4. Reads and writes competently. 5. Practices active listening and speaking. 6. Uses creativity to present ideas and concepts. 7. Develops computer proficiency. Every student will be: • A Manager, who 1. Will work cooperatively with others from diverse backgrounds. 2. Identify and solve problems 3. Resolve conflicts in a constructive manner. 4. Adapt to changes. 5. Help to lead others. 6. Explore and appreciate her/his creative potential. 7. Work effectively toward goals. 8. Be a strong supporter of her/his community. 9. Use the power of the individual to improve everyone’s quality of life. Every student will be: • A Thinker, who 1. Formulates an opinion based on facts. 2. Applies critical thinking and problem-solving skills. 3. Distinguishes between fact and opinion. 4. Gathers, analyzes and interprets data. 5. Works toward mastery of content area standards. School Status • No external evaluations • 70% or better is consistently achieved on textbook chapter tests, in–house assessment tests and class and homework assignments. In addition, CCPA provides programs and courses that adhere to the California Department of Education Framework and the University of California approved A-G Curriculum requirements, which, guarantee high school students with courses that allow them to attend college. Every student can succeed. If student achievement reflects mastery of subject matter, their grades should reflect their diligence. We teach with love and discipline.
